Have Yourself a Folky Little Christmas, Day 14

By Kim Ruehl, About.com

Imani: the Kwanzaa symbol of Faith

Holiday-Themed Song of the Day:

"This Ain't No Time of Year to be Alone" by Mark Erelli from Wonderland: A Winter Solstice Celebration (Signature Sounds, 2002).

Kwanzaa Principle of the Day: Imani:

The principle celebrated on the final day of Kwanzaa is Imani, or Faith. On this day, those who celebrate Kwanzaa focus on the faith they have in themselves, their parents, teachers, leaders, and what is right.

Holiday Tradition of the Day:

The seventh day of Kwanzaa is designated for meditation, as it falls on New Years day. This day is spent reflecting on the life, people, and events of the past year, as well as those ahead. It is also a day to recommit to traditional values and to meditate on the "Kawaida questions": Who am I? Am I who I claim to be? Am I all I should be?

Gift of the Day:

The Essential Taj Mahal, by Taj Mahal (Legacy, 2005). Taj Mahal is one of the most diverse folk-blues guys around, and his long career is a testament to his talent. If you're unfamiliar with his work, have a listen.
