The joy of the 2007 Grammy Awards started pretty much right off the bat, when Lifetime Achievement Award winner Joan Baez showed up to introduce the Dixie Chicks. Baez gave the Chicks an appropriate introduction, citing the lyrics of Woody Guthrie ("This land is your land, this land is my land") and stating, "I've spent much of my life being told to shut up and sing. Yet every once in a while, artists stand up and use the power of music to show us the great American folksinger Woody Guthrie had the right dream."

The Dixie Chicks followed, giving an outstanding and rather apropos performance of their Grammy-nominated song, "Not Ready to Make Nice," from their Grammy-nominated album Taking the Long Way.

Indeed, the Dixie Chicks wound up taking home five trophies from the 2007 Grammy Awards, including Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Album of the Year. By the time they made their acceptance speech for Album of the Year (their last award of the night), they were all a little teary-eyed, and lead singer, Natalie Maines, said, "We get the message. I'm very humbled. I think people were using their voices [when they voted for us]."

Other bright, notable moments included the Lifetime Achievement recognition for Joan Baez and the Grateful Dead, among several other deserving artists.

In addition to the Dixie Chicks' spirited performance, other highlights included appearances by legends like Smokey Robinson and a songwriter relay with Corrine Bailey Rae, John Mayer, and John Legend. Christina Aguilera gave an outstanding tribute to James Brown with her mind-blowing performance of "It's a Man's Man's Man's World."

Other than that, it was business as usual on the Grammy Stage. No folk music awards were presented on the show, of course, so here's a rundown of the folk artists who were honored with awards:
