Johnny Cash Will Release One More Record :
This time, the record will be full of cover songs by Barry Manilow. Why not? If Manilow and Jay-Z can resurrect their careers in 2006, why can't Johnny make another go from the grave?
Truth: By many accounts, 2006's Johnny Cash - America V was the final hurrah from the man who could sing every song well.
Alison Krauss to Produce and Co-Star in Kevin Bacon's New Film:
Yes, the two people who have worked with everyone will be teaming up in 2007 for a remake of the 1976 made-for-TV movie
Boy in the Plastic Bubble. Bacon will take on the roll originally played by John Travolta and, in a weird plot twist,
Alison Krauss will play Olivia Newton John's role from
Grease.
Truth: Alison Krauss is working on a duets album with Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin. There's no word yet on when the album will be released, but chances are it'll come out some time in 2007.
Ani Difranco Will Give Birth To Twins, Naming Them Righteous and Babe:
We know
Ani Difranco's pregnant and, according to the announcement of her pregnancy, which she made while
receiving an award from NOW, she is due sometime in February. I have no clue what kind of baby she's having, but twins are fun to speculate over. I'm guessing, given their mother's natural talents, little Righteous and Babe will play guitar on Difranco's next record. Kids learn fast.
Truth: Honestly, I got nothing here. But if Ani has twins and names them Righteous and Babe, I'll invite you all to toilet paper my campsite at Falcon Ridge.
Dylan Does Disco:
It's kind of the only thing the guy's left untouched. I'm still not convinced the
Broadway show wouldn't have been a smash hit if
Bob Dylan had written it himself. I'll have to speculate about that forever, I suppose. Disco, however, is a viable option. If the Bee Gees could do it, why not Bob?
Truth: Again, I've got nothing. As of this article, as far as About Folk Music knows, Dylan isn't planning on a disco album. At least not in 2007.
Brandi Carlile Will Release Her Second Album:
You can't rush art. But honestly,
Brandi Carlile is taking far too long with her second album. Given this long wait, it'll be called "Wasn't it Worth It?" and will feature guest performances by Elton John and the Kingston Trio. It'll change our definition of folk-rock and will make peace on earth.
Truth: According to Brandi Carlile's Web site, her second album is due April 3. No news on the title or any collaborations.
Bluegrass Music Will Go Out of Style, Only to Enjoy a Comeback in 2008:
Much like the oft-repeated "Year of the Woman," one phrase that gets repeated every year for the last decade is "Bluegrass is Back." Something can't be back if it never went away. That's why
bluegrass music will go away for a while in 2007. It will be brought back into style by some 2008 presidential candidate, who will get elected after displaying his/her banjo skills on national television.
Truth: Bluegrass is always cool, and has been for over 50 years now. It won't go away as long as I have anything to say on the matter.
