As of this article, Lonely Runs Both Ways is the most recent release from Alison Krauss and Union Station—one of the best groups in their genre. The Grammy-nominated record features some of the most impressive performances from Krauss and the band to date.

While her roots are still decidedly bluegrass and country, Krauss' collaborations over the years with folks ranging from Dar Williams to Nickel Creek and beyond have expanded the aesthetic and influence of her songs. While tunes on Lonely Runs Both Ways like "Poor Old Heart" are decidedly contemporary bluegrass, ballads like "A Living Prayer" are more folk-infused gospel, while "Goodbye is All We Have" is verging on acousti-pop.
