Folk Music Blog Round-Up
Tuesday December 19, 2006
In the year or more since I've been working on this site for About.com, I've seen tons of blogs pop up, or just gain more visibility, that comment on American folk music. I'm a firm believer in getting your news and information from at least a dozen different sources, and I think that's why the Internet is such a beautiful thing.
Folk Alley - includes podcasts and on-demand concerts, plus an "open mic" radio sort of set-up and news posts now and then.
Roots Music CD Reviews - just what it sounds like—CD reviews of folk and roots music artists.
Back Porch News - basically focused on folk music news and current events in the national Americana scene.
Me & Thee Blogspot - includes brief interviews and reviews of records and shows.
Bluegrass Blog - this blog covers American bluegrass, with pickups of stories from around the country.
In case, like me two years ago, you feel like you can't find nearly as many sources on the Web that talk about what's going on in folk music, look no further. Here's a brief rundown of folk, roots, Americana, and bluegrass blogs all across the Web:
If you know of any others, please post links in the comments. Thanks!

You mentioned my blogsite in a previous article, but I will do some self-promotion and bring it up again! Ron Olesko’s Folk Music Notebook at http://www.ronolesko.blogspot.com !
Thanks!
Ron
Of course, Ron! Thanks for chiming in. Sorry for the omission!
Thanks Kim! No problem – your initial recognition of my site was a real honor for me, and I greatly appreciate it.
It is wonderful to see that there are several sites offering news and information about folk music. Keep it up!
If I may be permitted a wee bit of self-promotion, the Tangleweed Blog (tangleweed.org/blog) covers a wide-range of folk and traditional musics, and is updated daily.
Hi, Kim- Our little nonprofit just started a blog- we’d appreciate being added to your list.
Keep up the good work, thanks!

Assuming either the Left Wing or the Right Wing gained control of the country, it would probably fly around in circles.
I’ve come across a free song download of Canadian folk singer Catherine Maclellan check out http://www.truenorthrecords.com/music/catherinemaclellan
