Catweazle Club comes to NYC, Thursdays
- Britain's most intimate performance space has come to the Lower East Side. Catweazle is a completely acoustic open performance night--anyone can sign up to perform music, poetry, or anything else. What makes it unique is that there's a featured set by one or two great performers each session. There are no microphones--it's all acoustic. And it's connected to Catweazle in London and Oxford, UK, so if you do well, you automatically have a foot in the door internationally (most performances are filmed, highlights go online). Also, the audience actually listens because the acts are quality and the whole thing is only 2 or 2 1/2 hours long. All this goes down in the funky apartment gallery of the poet Steve Cannon. The list fills up fast, so arrive by 7:30. Performers get in free! Everyone else pays a small cover, and there are good drinks for around $2. Catweazle Takes placealternate Thursdays at Tribes Gallery: Apr. 15, 2010, Apr 29, May 13, May 27, etc etc. Address is: A Gathering
