Check Out Your Local Folk Alliance

By Kim Ruehl, About.com

Every state has a Folk Alliance, and some even exist at the county and city level. Folk Alliances are full of Folk music enthusiasts who can not only provide you with great resources for finding out what venues you can play at in your state, but Alliances often put on shows of their own.

Folk Alliance showcases are a great way to gain exposure to the people in your community who are already interested in the type of music you perform. They often have relationships with local Unitarian churches, radio stations, and folk festivals, which can be a great help as you begin to branch out.

Often Folk Alliances will also hold monthly song circles, which is a great way to meet and network with other musicians in your area.
