Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for Motion Picture - this envelope should just be sealed up and plopped into Bob Dylans lap (or rather into the laps of the producers: Steve Berkowitz, Bruce Dickinson, and Jeff Rosen) for the soundtrack to Scorseses No Direction Home. However, it will be given a fair race by the soundtrack for Ray.
Best Recording Package should go to Ani Difranco for Knuckle Down. She and her design partner Brian Gunert got the trophy last year, and they may as well have it again. Because, honestly, how often does a folksinger get a nod for their snazzy packaging?
And let's not forget the special awards. For starters, quintessential sensitive singer/songwriter James Taylor will be honored by the MusiCares Foundation as its "Person of the Year." Paul Simon, Dixie Chicks, David Crosby, Alison Krauss, and more, will pay tribute.
In the Lifetime Achievement Award category, we folk enthusiasts get to cheer for Pete Seeger's former group, The Weavers, as well as Delbert McClinton. Congratulations!
And there you have it, folks: a basic, completely biased breakdown on what you can expect at this year's Grammy Award ceremony. The Grammys will be televised on CBS on February 8 at 8 PM Eastern & Pacific ... but chances are the Folk categories will be awarded "in private ceremonies held earlier (that) evening."
