Well it was kind of a joke for a while they were [talking about] how it would be fun if I joined their band, and then I said no but I would like to go on tour and open some shows for you, and then that was kind of the end of that. But then we were like well, were putting together some dates for this fall and so are you, do you want to do something together? And they said yes, so
Fairly simple.
[laughs] Yeah.
And Ive heard this is going to be a tour where theyre just playing their quiet sleeper sort-of songs
Well, the tour is called the Long of it and the Short of it, and theyre doing two nights in each place, one night of their sort of folky-poppy songs and then the other is more like their rock jams. Im not sure which is which, youll have to look into that. I think the Long of It night is the rock jams.
Okay, one final thing, if you can settle a bit of a score for me
Having lived in both places, which has the better music scene: Seattle or Portland?
Well, I only moved to Portland a year ago and Ive only actually been in town about five months of the year. But, to be honest, I think maybe Portland is better if, for nothing else, its just cheaper to live here. Musicians have to make money and its cheaper to live here. And I think thats probably why a lot of the musicians I know from Seattle are moving here
the same thing is happening in New York and San Francisco and L.A., where people cant afford to be musicians and live there
and theyre all coming to Portland. So I dont know how long thisll last. I dont really want to take sides though, because I do feel like Seattle has a really good music scene.
