Have Yourself a Folky Little Christmas, Day 10

By Kim Ruehl, About.com

Ujima: the Kwanzaa symbol of Collective Work & Responsibility

Holiday-Themed Song of the Day:"Bah Humbug": By Tim O'Brien, from Christmas on the Mountain. This compilation recording features some of the best bluegrass holiday recordings, including this snarky little gem from Tim O'Brien.
Kwanzaa Principle of the Day: Ujima: This symbol of Ujima stands for Collective Work and Responsibility. The essential goal in meditating on Ujima is to create a community where people work together to help each other grapple with issues, eventually overcoming collective problems.
Holiday Tradition of the Day: Gifts during Kwanzaa are mostly made only to children. Usually a Kwanzaa gift includes a book and a symbol of heritage. These gifts represent the preservation of an emphasis on education and a tie to the child's African heritage and history.
Gift of the Day: Best of Leadbelly. This CD features some of the best recordings by arguably the best African-American folksinger ever.
