Unitarian Universalist Churches

By Kim Ruehl, About.com

Definition: Unitarian Universalism is a Christian-originated religious philosophy that considers God universal, claims all humans have been granted salvation, and conscience is the main focus of their theology.

For whatever reason, Unitarian churches tend to have monthly "coffeehouse" series wherein they invite folk singer/songwriters and bands to perform. It's a great place to stop on tour because they pay well and usually will even give you a place to sleep for the night, without trying to prosthyletize.

And it's a great opportunity to check out folk singer/songwriters if you're not into the smoky bar scene, and if going to coffeehouses makes you feel like you're the only person over the age of 25.

Pronunciation: yoo-nih-TER-yan yoo-nih-VERS-uh-lihst
Also Known As: Church Coffeehouses
Examples: Unitarian Universalists love folk singers, and often welcome them to perform at monthly coffeehouses.
