Definition: A scehduled performance featuring one or more spotlighted folk music artists, which is held at a person's house. Often sponsored by a neighborhood, community, city or state folk alliance. Usually in the living room, but occasionally held in the back yard.
House concerts are generally held as a way of getting folk artists to visit a town they wouldn't be able to play in otherwise because there are no folk music clubs. Usually the person throwing the house concert encourages their friends and community members to donate a cover charge in order to pay the artist.
Pronunciation: HOUSE CON'-sert
Examples: If you live in a small town, a great way to get regional touring folk acts to play there is to throw a house concert.
