Have Yourself a Folky Little Christmas, Day 21

By Kim Ruehl, About.com

Strange Christmas Factoid: Hanging a wreath in ancient Rome signified victory, and it's said that the tradition of hanging a wreath at Christmas time is derived from this ancient practice. Its significance for Christmas would be to symbolize God's victory over Satan with the birth of Jesus.
Holiday Tradition of the Day: Egg Nog: The first egg nog made in the American colonies was in Jamestown, VA, in 1607. The name "Nog" is derived from the word "Grog," or any drink made using rum.
Gift of the Day: Live as I'll Ever Be (Hightone, 2000) by Chris Smither. Chris Smither is a great singer/songwriter now based in Boston. His smooth, soulful melodies and insightful, poetic lyrics run the gamut from blues to old-school Folk songs. Listen/Download or Buy.
