Guide Review - The Mountain Firework Company - A Rough Guide to Feeling Rough
I was turned onto The Mountain Firework Company after someone posted the suggestion on the Folk Music forum. If you check out the band's Web site, you'll find out why I was immediately impressed. But with that said, this band isn't all bells and whistles.Their music is fairly raw, as far as the Folk Rock and alt.country worlds go. But their sound is truly genuine and at some points, just downright lovely.
In the tradition of the sort of Folk music that tends to come out of the UK, the men of The Mountain Firework Company have their share of fun, whimsical songs, that could inspire the waving of beer before running down the street naked starts to sound like a good idea.
Overall, this is a really great record, and The Mountain Firework Company is a really fantastic band. Their melodies are catchy, their lyrics are well-put, and their instrumentation is intuitive and tight. The best songs are at the beginning, middle, and end of the record. But that's not to say the others are hogwash.
Bottom line: if you're into Folk Rock and alt.country, check these guys out. Unfortunately, their CD is only avialable from their Web site right now.
