There were a number of really great new artists to pop on the scene in 2008, across all genres of folk music. Bluegrass saw incredibly talented instrumentalists and performers like Sierra Hull and the SteelDrivers make a stir.

Alt-country artists like Justin Townes Earle and the everybodyfields turned heads and perked up more than a few ears, while singer-songwriters like Anthony da Costa and Meg Hutchinson enthralled audiences at festivals and conferences alike. Take a deeper look at some of the year's best new folk artists.
