Among the topics discussed by panels at the 2008 conference were the environmental impact of the music industry and festivals, how artists can honor traditional music in a modern world, and several other topics. Upstairs, in some of the top floors of the hotel, guerrilla showcases played well into the wee hours of the morning. Up-and-coming artists like Greg Klyma, Anthony da Costa, Randall Williams, Danny Schmidt, Betty Soo, and countless others played short sets and jammed in hotel rooms.
It all kicked off with moving keynote addresses from Eliza Gilkyson and Janet Reno and an awards ceremony. The 2009 conference takes place back in Memphis Feb. 18-22. Read my blog entries from Folk Alliance 2008:
