2006 Folk Music Year in Review

Many of us in the folk world realize Bruce Springsteen has been flirting with crossing over to folksinger for quite a while now. In fact, given Bruce's flirting with the topic, it's easier now to look back and classify "Born in the USA" as a folk-rock blue-collar commentary. When he embarked on recording We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions, however, it was like the outing of Springsteen as a closet folkie was long overdue.

Although he's admitted many of Pete Seeger's songs were relatively new to him as he set off on the adventure of recording this record, like it or not, this album was a notable point in the year.
