As far as folksingers or groups who came on strong and didn't let up in 2006, the Weepies were easily one of the year's highlights. New Englander Deb Talan and her partner-in-song Dave Tannen were writing great songs already. Somehow, the release of their second collaborative album, Say I Am You, caught my attention and, it seems, that of pretty much everyone else in the folk-pop world.

Their energy in their live performance is infectious, and their personalities in the midst of our interview were undeniably charming. To top it all off, they manage to write the type of songs that are both undefinable and unforgettable. For those reasons, they quickly and easily became a favorite breakout artist, not only for yours truly, but for folk and acoustic music fans everywhere.
