For many years, the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) has been gathering in Nashville, Tenn., each autumn to celebrate and discuss the incredible bluegrass music made by its members. Members come from all over the world to share the stars of bluegrass music communities across the US, Europe, and beyond, converging on the Nashville convention center for a series of informative and thought-provoking panels and discussions. There are also official showcases held daily, awards given to trailblazers within the industry, a World of Bluegrass festival open to the public, and other spinoff events happening around town all week long. If you're a fan of bluegrass music, Nashville is the place to be each year at this time, when you're bound to run into some of the finest pickers in the world.

Beginning in 2013, the IBMA will be moving its annual conference and World of Bluegrass Festival to Raleigh, North Carolina, where they're sure to reach a younger and more diverse audience than they would have in the industry-packed town of Nashville, Tenn. Don't get me wrong, though, when it comes to holding an industry event of any kind, Nashville is a great town to see and celebrate authentic live music - its venues and music community are hard to match.

So, in the spirit of celebrating and honoring great bluegrass pickers, this year, the International Bluegrass Music Awards were presented in ceremonies held during the IBMA Conference week in Nashville, Tenn., handed out at the Ryman Auditorium on Sep. 27, 2012. See below for a full list of this year's nominees. (Winners are noted in bold.)
