Description:
Folk-rock, jam bandComparisons:
It's hard not to compare any jam band to the Grateful Dead, the Allman Brothers, or Phish. String Cheese Incident also incorporate some bluegrass elements into their playing, so in that respect, they're similar to their contemporaries folks like Railroad Earth, Donna The Buffalo and Umphrees McGee.Starter CDs:

String Cheese Incident (SCI) formed in the early 1990s in Crested Butte, Colorado. Originally a rather casual operation, the band would play local gigs at ski resorts, where they would be compensated with free lift tickets. After a few years of that, they formed SCI Fidelity records an independent record label under which they released their debut, Born on the Wrong Planet.Less than a year later, they released another 10-song live album, A String Cheese Incident. The album was recorded at Fox Theatre in Boulder, CO, and featured pianist Kyle Hollingsworth for the first time.
Since then, the band has been touring practically nonstop. They hired a company called Peak Experience to handle the visual effects for their "incidents." They've headlined Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, and many other high profile events and festivals.
They have released seven albums to date (not counting the series of several live records they began releasing in 2002), as well as five videos.
