Lucinda Williams Biography: Born in Lake Carles, Louisiana, Lucinda Williams moved around a lot as a child. Her father was a professor of literature, a poet and musician. She began writing songs when she was a young child, and made her debut in Mexico City when she was 17. In 1978, she recorded her first album of folk and blues covers on Smithsonian Folkways. It wasn't until 20 years later that her career really took off with the release of Car Wheels on a Gravel Road. Since then, she's received three Grammy Awards, and was named America's Best Songwriter by TIME Magazine in 2002. She's recorded eight albums in all, and has collaborated with artists like Willie Nelson, Elvis Costello, and John Prine.
