Danny Schmidt:

Danny Schmidt was born and raised in Austin, Tex. He moved to Charlottesville, Va., where he co-founded a musicians' co-op and recorded his first CD. After a short time making records, he became disinterested in the music industry and moved back to Austin. However, he returned to music when he developed cancer and needed to make money to pay his medical bills. The CD he recorded did just that and, once healed, Schmidt began making records again and touring extensively. He won the 2007 Kerrville New Folk competition and signed to Red House Records in 2008. He's released five CDs in all.
