He grew up playing piano and guitar, entertaining family friends.
After moving to El Paso, Texas, to study art at the University of Texas at El Paso, he dropped out of college and joined a rock band called Joe Rockhead. Other bands he played in after Joe Rockhead include jam band Ugly Americans and the Scabs, before setting out on a solo career in 1999. At first, he performed solo under the name "Lonelyland," but later opted to just perform as Bob Schneider, and named his debut album Lonelyland in 2001. Since going solo, he's released a total of nine albums, including one he recorded with Mitch Watkins, Underneath the Onion Trees (2000). He's received numerous Austin Music Awards and has toured as an opener with the Dixie Chicks. |
