After a few years of considerable success, Dave Guard left the group in 1961, and was replaced by John Stewart (known for writing The Monkee's huge hit, "Daydream Believer"). After several more years of remarkable success, the group disbanded in 1967, although Shane started a group called the New Kingston Trio two years later. He eventually reached an agreement with his former bandmates and changed the name back to the Kingston Trio in the mid-70s.
Since then, there have been several personnel changes and none of the group's original members remain, although Shane has been known to make guest appearances on occasion.
In all, the Kingston Trio has released over 40 CDs and had 10 Top 40 hits. They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 200, and have received two Grammy Awards for their work.
