Ruthie Foster Biography:
Ruthie Foster grew up in Central Texas, and made her live performing debut at the age of 14, as a soloist in her church choir. She moved to Waco to study music at McClennan Community College and spent her nights performing in clubs around town. She soon joined a blues band as their lead singer and started touring Texas' major cities.
She joined the Navy to see the world, but soon joined a band inside the service singing pop and funk cover tunes. After her turn in the service ended, she moved to New York City and signed a contract with Atlantic Records. She eventually left her contract with Atlantic and moved back to Texas when her mother fell ill.
She has since released five albums, and now makes her home in Austin.
