John Carter Cash Biography:
Though Cash has dabbled in the areas of singing, songwriting, and performance, he's more widely known and hailed as a producer. He started working as a record producer in 1999 when he produced his mother's Grammy-winning album Press On. Following that accomplishment, he took a job with Rick Rubin, working as an Associate Producer on his father's American series of albums - specifically American III & IV: Solitary Man and The Man Comes Around, respectively. These projects earned him more praise and accolades as a producer and, no doubt, contributed to the parade of remarkably respected artists who have since hired him as producer on their projects.
Since, he's produced albums for artists as variant as Mavis Staples and Loretta Lynn, Billy Joe Shaver (whose Cash-produced album Everybody's Brother scored a Grammy nomination in 2007), Sheryl Crow, Tim O'Brien, Rosanne Cash, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, John Cowan, and numerous others. In all, five of the albums Cash has produced have earned Grammy nominations. He's recorded and released two solo albums of his own work as well as one with his cousin Dale Jett and his wife Laura Cash, wherein the trio recorded under the moniker of the Carter Family III.
In addition to his musical pursuits, Cash has become quite prolific as an author. He wrote a book each about his mother June Carter and father Johnny Cash (see above). He has also published a number of children's books, including The Cat in the Rhinestone Suit.
In 1995, he married Mary Joska, with whom he had one son (Joseph John Cash) before the two divorced in 1999. A year later, he married Laura Weber, and the two had two children together (Anna Maybelle and Jack Ezra, respectively). His wife is also an accomplished musician and Cash frequently backs her on her music. He owns Cash Productions LLC and the Cash Cabin Studio in Hendersonville, Tenn.
