Be Good Tanyas Biography:
Based in Vancouver, BC, Canada, the Be Good Tanyas are an acoustic folk/roots trio of multi-instrumentalist women who have all done their share of playing music both solo and with this group. The group originally formed through the collaborations of Jolie Holland (who still appears with the Tanyas from time to time) and Samantha Parton. According to Billboard magazine, Parton met Ford and Klein "while planting trees in Nelson, British Columbia."
By the turn of the 21st century, the Be Good Tanyas were playing out as much as possible in local thrift stores and coffee shops; and, in 2001, they released their debut album, Chinatown.
Through lush harmonies and each girl's impressive command of various traditional Americana instruments, the Be Good Tanyas do a wonderful job covering traditional folk songs and roots music, as well as lovely originals. For their 2006 release Hello Dear, they covered artists including Neil Young and Prince.
