1998's Little Plastic Castle was kind of all over the map stylistically, but producer DiFranco keeps it together nicely. Highlights include "Gravel" and "Fuel."

Ani DiFranco - Little Plastic Castle
I always think of this one as the one where Ani started to become a little disenchanted with stardom. Who knows if I'm right (I'm sure someone does), but it sure sounds like that on this record, particularly from the title track and the dark and creepy arrangement of "Glass House."
Little Plastic Castle is also one of the first records that really shows off the beginnings of DiFranco's fierce producing skills. It features her first foray into rap ("Fuel"), and what should be an anthem for anyone working in retail ("Pixie"). There's the fabulous James Bond-ish horns-driven tune "Deep Dish" and another personal favorite, "Independence Day."
