Back to basics, Ani DiFranco headed to her home recording studio in New Orleans to make this one all by her lonesome. Featuring Ani on all man-made instruments, and the inclusion of natural instruments like the traffic on St. Claude Avenue, the rain, and the whistle of a distant train, Educated Guess is a really great record.
Throughout her catalog, DiFranco has often included snippets of her original poetry, but this record has three poems, including the disc-opener "Platforms" and one of her most thoughtful pieces, "Grand Canyon." It's almost impossible to pick a best song from this record, as it includes the heart-breaker "Bodily," the beautiful "Swim," and the anthemic "Animal."
