Old Time Music, Back Again!

Friday October 14, 2005
Something you may have heard big buzz about lately is the resurgence of Old Time Music. In case you happen to not yet be on the bandwagon (pun intended), Old Time Music is a little bit country, a little bit bluegrass, and even a little bit of crooning.

According to the Old Time Music Website, Old Time Music refers to either "(A) hopelessly outdated music or (B) deeply authentic music." OTM (as I will refer to it from here on out for the sake of preserving the length of this article) apparently began during the 1920s with the release of records by Georgia's Fiddlin John Carson.

The roots are decidedly based in Country music, but the songs range in subject matter on everything from traditional Folk songs to topical and tragic tunes. In other words, it's Folk music that sounds like it came from a long time ago, and embody's traditional aesthetics and timeless themes. Look for more on OTM artists from Doc Watson to Uncle Earl right here.
