A few weeks ago, I shared news that Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers had teamed up with Edie Brickell for a new album and tour, and now they've shared a first single from that disc via the New Yorker. To listen to "When You Get to Asheville", simply click on that link and let us know what you think. It's a quiet, thoughtful little number, thick on harmony "oohs" and dripping with sadness and longing. Martin and the Rangers' delicious, lush instrumentation backs Brickell's nuanced vocals quite swimmingly, indicating this is bound to be a darn good disc.
The disc doesn't drop til April, but this song is probably a good indication of what it'll contain. Meanwhile, the collaborative troupe has announced tour dates for the spring and summer:
