The Lumineers seemed to rise out of practically nowhere in 2012, rocketing to the top of so many lists, they earned not one but two Grammy nominations - Best Americana Album and Best New Artist.
Based in Denver, Colo., the Lumineers actually began as a duo between guitarist Wesley Shultz and percussionist/multi-instrumentalist Jeremiah Fraites when they were both living in New Jersey. After moving their musical collaboration to New York City, they decided to move instead to Denver, where life could be a little more affordable for a couple of starving artists. There, they added cellist Neyla Pekarek and began their meteoric rise.
