If you're into smart, analytical television shows about people involved with criminal investigations (among other things), you may recognize Brendan Hines as one of the former stars of the hit show Lie to Me. While Hines' television career hasn't stopped since that show was canceled, the cancellation has given him time to focus more on the other way he's remarkably gifted: songwriting.
Hines' new album, Small Mistakes will drop on Sept. 11 featuring six new songs about loneliness and heartache, mostly. They're not uplifting tunes, but they are richly insightful, poetic, and just melodically beautiful songs. Like so many budding singer-songwriters, the craft is one Hines has been honing for years. It just happens that, in the meantime, he wound up on television. After listening to an advance of the album and finding it stirring and lovely, I caught up with him recently for a quick Q&A. He'll be hitting the road this fall with the Milk Carton Kids - good company to keep, for sure. Check out my interview with Brendan Hines, this month's Artist to Watch.
