Last week, I shed some light on a handful of Canadian singer-songwriters worth paying attention to. Each of them could easily be considered torch-bearers for the rich tradition of Canadian music which has so influenced and inspired American artists for generations. To delve a little deeper, I thought I'd profile each of them one at a time.
First up is the Deep Dark Woods - a Saskatchewan-based outfit which sounds like it could have just as well risen out of the hills of Appalachia or the rainy mountains of the Pacific Northwest. (Indeed, the times they've raised the most attention in the States to my knowledge have been during the Americana Festival in Tennessee and the Pickathon festival in Portland, Ore.)
