Sarah Lee Guthrie & Johnny Irion seem to have been brought together through a long, winding road of musical and creative energy. Guthrie is the granddaughter of Woody Guthrie - the trailblazing troubadour whose Oklahoma upbringing drew similarities to the fictional family chronicled in John Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath. Irion is the grand-nephew of Steinbeck. They met in Los Angeles in the late 1990s when Irion was working with Chris Robinson of the Black Crows and cut their teeth in a collaboration with Pete Seeger's grandson Tao Rodriguez-Seeger. Now, when they're not traveling as the husband-and-wife duo whose contemporary folk songs rest heavily on tight harmonies, they're collaborating with Guthrie's father Arlo as the Guthrie Family band.
There is, in other words, no shortage of musical intrigue wrapped up in this duo's collaboration, for fans of American folk music. Learn more about Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion with this bio and profile.
