South by Southwest, you may know, is a roaring behemoth monster of a festival, packed with severe effort into every nook and cranny of downtown Austin, Tex. (and even a few pockets here and there on the outskirts). Ultimate music fans can enjoy offerings from every avenue of modern music - metal, hip-hop, punk, country, and...yes, even folk music.
Granted, I'll be sitting the festival out this year. But, that doesn't mean there aren't plenty of great folk artists worth catching. I know well, believe me, that going to SXSW with a highly detailed plan just won't work. You have to do a certain amount of playing-it-by-ear. That said, it's also good to have at least a small handful of artists you intend to squeeze into your week one way or another. To help you out with that, I've drawn up a list of five artists to watch at SXSW 2012.
