Don't Forget to Vote Today!
I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person who woke up at the crack of dawn today, eager to start Election Day as soon as possible. I know we won't have any definitive conclusion for several hours, but I volunteered to help out today, and that all kicks off at 7am. One-third of the country has already voted, and record turnout is still expected today. Lines may be long, but I encourage you to join them. Here in Washingon, our governor won her last campaign by barely more than 100 votes—every vote really does count.
This is certainly the most important presidential election of my lifetime, and is likely to be our most pivotal for some time. Don't take anything for granted, ignore the polls, the commercials, and all the other noise. Just grab a book, a free cup of coffee from Starbucks, and get in line.
"But Kim," you say, "this is a folk music site. Where's the folk music today?" In honor of Election Day, I'm giving you a link to my favorite Election Day song: "Vote," by Spook Handy. Here's the video, and here's Spook's Web site, where you can download the song. And here are some links to more play lists, in case you're still wondering what's at stake in this election:

- Recession Songs
- Songs Protesting the Iraq War
- Civil Rights Songs
