All About Playing the Washboard

Monday November 3, 2008
Washboard players at PickathonI have no rhythm. But, if I did, I would love to play the washboard. It's one of the most versatile instruments I know of—you scratch it, tap it, pound on it. You can attach other instruments to it (cymbals, lunch bells, cowbells, wood blocks, etc.), or you can just play it with a pair of spoons. It's been played in all kinds of folk circles, from zydeco to jazz and old timey jug bands. Learn more about the musical washboard.
