Grammy Spotlight: Lucinda Williams

Lucinda WilliamsLucinda Williams is, really without question, one of the best songwriters in the country. In fact, Time Magazine officially gave her that title five years ago. She may have only been in the greater public eye for the past decade, but her career has spanned the past 30 years, beginning with a folk-blues album on Smithsonian Folkways back in '79.

Since then, she's collaborated with some of the finest artists in the industry, like Elvis Costello and Emmylou Harris. She's won a small handful of Grammy Awards and has inspired countless artists with her extraordinary songwriting gift.

This year, she's nominated for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance and Best Rock Song for "Come On" from her '07 release West (Lost Highway). There's not a lot of doubt in my mind that she deserves the nomination (and the award). We'll see what happens when the Grammy Awards are televised on Feb. 10, 2008. (Yes, despite the WGA strike, they're set to go on as planned.)

Come on is the best song I have heard this last year. I love it!
