February Artist of the Month: The Weavers

Wednesday February 1, 2006
The Weavers were a great folk group from the late 1940s and early 50s, sure, but after their disbanding in 1953, their career was far from over. It could be said that the Weavers lived on through the work of groups like The Kingston Trio and Peter Paul & Mary and artists like Bob Dylan.

Each of the group's members went on to do other great projects, such as Lee Hays' children's Folk group The Baby Sitters, Ronnie Gilbert's projects with Holly Near, and Pete Seeger's highly influential solo career. All this and more has made the Grammy Awards committe name The Weavers for one of their 2006 Lifetime Achievement Awards. And for the month of February, they are our Artist of the Month.
